RESOLUTION NO. 18501, May 5, 2014

INTRODUCED BY Scott Burnett, Theresa Garza Ruiz, Crystal Williams, Fred Arbanas, James D. Tindall, Dennis Waits, Dan Tarwater, Greg Grounds and Bob Spence, County Legislators


Body
WHEREAS, at precisely 2 p.m. on September 2, 2013, the citizens of Jackson County joined together on the town square in downtown Independence, Missouri to rededicate the Historic Truman Courthouse; and,

WHEREAS, that ceremony marked the 80th anniversary, to the hour, of Jackson County Presiding Judge Harry S Truman's rededication of the same courthouse in 1933; and,

WHEREAS, it is now appropriate that 80 years from today, the citizens of Jackson County are able to commemorate the rededication of this historic building by discovering what life was like for our citizens in the early 21st century; and,

WHEREAS, a time capsule containing artifacts and items that are historically appropriate for 2013 have been placed securely inside the Historic Truman Courthouse; and,

WHEREAS, this time capsule is to remain sealed and is not to be opened until September 7, 2093; and,

WHEREAS, the citizens of Jackson County are invited to join with Michael D. Sanders, County Executive, Eileen Weir, the Mayor of Independence, and Don Reimal, the former Mayor of Independence, for a celebration commemorating this special event; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature does hereby recognize and commemorate the closing and sealing of the Historic Truman Courthouse Time Capsule, to be held May 10, 2014.


Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
