AN ORDINANCE appropriating $470,000.00 from the undesignated fund balance of the 2013 Special Road and Bridge Fund and authorizing the County Executive to execute a commercial real estate sales contract with Blue River - Kansas City Baptist Association, for the purchase of property located at 4001 NE Lakewood Way, Lee's Summit, MO, to serve as the new headquarters for the Sheriff's Office, at an actual cost to the County not to exceed $920,000.00.

Body
WHEREAS, the current County budget contains funds in the amount of $750,000.00 designated for the remodeling of the existing Sheriff's Office's headquarters; and,
WHEREAS, prior to the start of renovation, it was determined that a building located at 4001 NE Lakewood Way, Lee's Summit, MO, is well-suited for use as a new headquarters for the Sheriff's Office; and,
WHEREAS, the County's retained real estate agent has negotiated a purchase price of $920,000.00 for this property; and
WHEREAS, a portion of budgeted funds will be used for construction of additional parking space and minor improvements to the facility; and,
WHEREAS, if this purchase is approved, the existing Sheriff's headquarters would be used to house the Park Ranger Unit of the Parks + Rec Department; and,
WHEREAS, this purchase is the best interest of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Jackson County, and,
WHEREAS, an appropriation is necessary to place a portion of the funds required for this acquisition in the appropriate spending account; now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the following appropriation from the fund balance of the 2013 Special Road and Bridge Fund be and hereby is made:
