Body
WHEREAS, the site selection process for the 2016 Republican National Convention is underway; and,
WHEREAS, this national event occurs every four years to adopt the Republican party platform and select candidates for the office of President and Vice President of the United States; and,
WHEREAS, Kansas City/Jackson County would be an ideal choice to host the 2016 convention; and,
WHEREAS, a successful bid in 2016 would be the 40th anniversary of Republican National Convention's last visit to Kansas City in 1976; and,
WHEREAS, the Republican National Convention will bring economic gains to the region while showcasing Kansas City's Midwestern hospitality, fine hotels, modern facilities, and the opportunity for visitors to sample some of the best barbecue in America; and,
WHEREAS, Kansas City is a proven performer at facilitating large events, having successfully hosted the 2012 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, several NCAA basketball championship games, and numerous other conventions; and,
WHEREAS, this historic event would spotlight Kansas City/Jackson County as a major convention destination; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby expresses its support for Kansas City to be selected as host city for the Republican National Convention in 2016.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
