Body
WHEREAS, Labor's Educational & Political Club Independent (LEPCI) has selected Terral S. (Terry) Akins, Business Manager for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union No. 124, as Labor's Representative of the Year for 2013; and,

WHEREAS, Terry, who has been involved in the electrical union trade nearly his entire career, was accepted into the electrician's apprentice program at Local 124 following high school, where he completed his Journeyman and Master training; and,

WHEREAS, Terry worked in the field for sixteen years as a journeyman wireman, foreman, general foreman, and project manager before becoming an apprenticeship instructor in 1996; and,

WHEREAS, during his subsequent nine years as an instructor, Terry earned degrees in Industrial Technology from Maple Woods Community College, Vocational Education from Longview Community College, and Business Management from Metropolitan Community College; and,
WHEREAS, prior to becoming Business Manager in 2008, Terry was appointed Business Representative in 2005; and,

WHEREAS, in addition to his role as Business Manager, Terry is President of the Greater Kansas City Building and Construction Trades Council and is also active in his community, working with the Electrical Workers Minority Caucus, Christmas in October, and Dollars Against Diabetes Programs, and serving, since 2011, as a member of the Jackson County Plan Commission; and,

WHEREAS, Terry will be honored at the LEPCI's awards banquet scheduled for Friday, July 19; now therefore,
