Body
WHEREAS, Meah Wilburn, a sixth grade student at Highland Park Elementary School in the Lee's Summit R-7 School District, qualified for the Scripps National Spelling Bee February 23, 2013,  when she won the Jackson County Spelling Bee; and,
 
WHEREAS, Meah started competing at spelling bees at Highland Park in the fourth grade and tied for fifth place at last year's Jackson County Spelling Bee; and,
 
WHEREAS, Meah will travel to Washington, D.C., to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, May 28 - 30, 2013; and,
 
WHEREAS, this marks the fourth consecutive year that a Lee's Summit R-7 student has won first place at the Jackson County Spelling Bee and advanced to the national competition; and,
 
WHEREAS, Meah is an avid swimmer and is excited to follow in the footsteps of Jordan Hoffman of Lee's Summit, who also attended Highland Park and tied for eighth place at the National Spelling Bee last year; and,
 
WHEREAS, Meah's parents Laurie and Dan Wilburn, and brother, Hudson, are justifiably proud of their daughter and sister; now therefore,
 
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Meah Wilburn for qualifying for the National Spelling Bee, and extends best wishes to her in all of her future endeavors.
 
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date:  This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
