Body
WHEREAS, in 1961, Jackson County developed a park at the Lone Jack Civil War site and in 1963 a Civil War Museum was constructed and dedicated on the premises; and,
WHEREAS, by Resolution 14677, dated July 21, 2003, the Legislature did authorize an Agreement with the City of Lone Jack, Missouri for the management and operation of the Civil War Museum; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Lone Jack has now requested to terminate that Agreement; and,
WHEREAS, the Director of the Parks + Rec Department recommends a Cooperative and Use Agreement with the Lone Jack Historical Society, whereunder the Lone Jack Historical Society agrees to lease and assume the responsibilities of the Jackson County Civil War Museum, the adjoining cemetery, and all land associated with the County-owned Lone Jack Park; and,
WHEREAS, this Agreement is in the best interest of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Jackson County; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Agreement with the City of Lone Jack, authorized by Resolution 14677, is hereby terminated, and;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri that the County Executive is hereby authorized to execute the attached Cooperative and Use Agreement with the Lone Jack Historical Society, at no cost to the County, for the management and operation of The Civil War Museum on behalf of the County.
