Body
WHEREAS, Michael Henderson, Chief of Forensic Operations and Investigations for the Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office, is the recipient of the 2012 Regional Leadership Award presented by the Mid-America Regional Council; and,
WHEREAS, Mike has served as Deputy Commander of the Region VII Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team (DMORT) since 1993; and,
WHEREAS, in his role as Deputy Commander of DMORT, Mike has run the morgue operations for 14 deployments, including the 9/11 World Trade Center event and Hurricane Katrina disaster; and,
WHEREAS, most recently Mike was deployed to Joplin, Missouri, to assist in the aftermath of the May 22, 2011 F-5 tornado; and,
WHEREAS, in Joplin, Mike led the mortuary operations to assist in victim identification, working with numerous local, state, and federal agencies to identify and return the tornado victims to their families, to provide closure and begin the healing process for the Joplin community; and,
WHEREAS, Mike has 21 years of law enforcement experience with an extensive background in death and crime scene investigations; and,
WHEREAS, Mike joined the Medical Examiner's Office in 2007, where he oversees administration, morgue operations, and investigations, and supervises 16 employees; and,
WHEREAS, Mike is a dedicated leader and asset to Jackson County where he serves as an advocate for a regional approach to mass fatality preparedness; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Michael Henderson on his receipt of the 2012 MARC Regional Leadership Award.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
