Body
WHEREAS, Snyder's Supermarket, located at 2620 Independence Avenue in the Northeast neighborhood of Kansas City, celebrated its 40th anniversary in May, 2012; and,

WHEREAS, the grocery business was founded by the late William O. (Bill) Snyder, father of William G. Snyder, Senior Deputy County Counselor for Jackson County, in May 1972; and,

WHEREAS, Bill Snyder opened his store on Independence Avenue and it became one of the first in the area to offer check cashing services and money orders; and,

WHEREAS, Bill Snyder served as a member of the Independence City Council from 1980 to 1988 and sold the business to Jerry D. James and his wife Becky James, on June 22, 2004; and,

WHEREAS, today the store continues its commitment to customer service, offering a full range of services that keep its customers loyal; and,

WHEREAS, the present owner of the supermarket, Jerry James, began working at the store 25 years ago, serving as manager for 16 years before becoming the owner in 2004; and,

WHEREAS, Jerry believes the grocery store industry is about keeping the customers loyal and treating them with a lot of respect; and,

WHEREAS, Jerry's children all grew up working at the store and for many employees the store is like a second family; and,

WHEREAS, several employees have worked at the store for ten to twenty years, all maintaining their commitment to having good products and selling service first; and,

WHEREAS, Snyder's Supermarket has remained an anchor in the Northeast community, with a strong commitment and a deep sense of community that has helped keep the business independent and thriving; now therefore,
