Body
WHEREAS, Flossie Hern will celebrate her 104th birthday on August 13, 2011; and,
WHEREAS, Flossie was born in Syracuse, Missouri, in 1907 to Henry and Laura Reardon; and,
WHEREAS, Flossie married the love of her life, Nathaniel Hern, on May 28, 1938, and they made their first home in Kansas City; and,
WHEREAS, Flossie and Nate moved to Buckner, Missouri in 1945, where they lived together until 1981 when Nate passed away; and,
WHEREAS, Flossie became a full-time volunteer for the J.S. Robertson Senior Citizens Center when it was founded in downtown Buckner in 1975, and continues to be its leading supporter and participant; and,
WHEREAS, Flossie rides the OATS bus to and from the senior center nearly every day and rarely misses the opportunity to attend services at the First Baptist Church in Buckner, where she has been a member since 1953; and,
WHEREAS, Flossie's positive, feisty nature, and good sense of humor make her a favorite member of the senior center; and,
WHEREAS, Flossie's companion and pet, Momma Kitty, joins in keeping her company at home; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Flossie Hern on her 104th birthday celebration and extends best wishes to her on this momentous occasion.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
