WHEREAS, heart disease is the number one killer of women; and,
WHEREAS, the risk factors for heart disease are smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, physical inactivity, diabetes, a family history of early heart disease, and age; and,
WHEREAS, women can promote their own heart health and prevent disease and illness by taking steps to prevent and control heart disease risk factors; and,
WHEREAS, women's health remains a priority for families, communities, and government, and our commitment to keeping women healthy is stronger than ever; and,
WHEREAS, The Heart Truth campaign and its Red Dress symbol are building awareness of women's heart disease risks and empowering them to reduce their risk and prevent heart disease; and,
WHEREAS, Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center is working in conjunction with The Heart Truth campaign to spread awareness of women's heart health issues in Jackson County and Kansas City by hosting the Heart Health Souper Seminar lunch event on February 4, 2011; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature proclaims February 4, 2011 as National Wear Red Day in Jackson County and encourages all citizens to work together to promote and improve the health of women and increase awareness of heart disease.
