Body

WHEREAS, Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation was honored by the American Academy of Parks and Recreation Administration with a Gold Medal for Excellence in Parks and Recreation Management; and,

WHEREAS, Lee's Summit won the class three Gold Medal Award for cities with a population of 50,001 to 100,000; and,

WHEREAS, the Gold Medal Award honors communities throughout the United States that demonstrate excellence in long-range planning, resource management, volunteerism, environmental stewardship, program development, professional development, and agency recognition; and,

WHEREAS, Lee's Summit was judged on its ability to address the needs of those it serves through the collective energies of citizens, staff, and elected officials; and,

WHEREAS, Lee's Summit officials submitted a twelve-minute video and application materials about their parks programs that was reviewed by a panel of five national parks and recreation professionals who served as judges for the award; and,

WHEREAS, Tom Lovell, Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation Administrator, said that Lee's Summit projects such as Legacy Park, significant partnerships with businesses, schools and other agencies, its extensive volunteer program, the department's trails and greenway system, and special events such as the downtown concerts, were primary considerations in the judging; and,

WHEREAS, the Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation Board is proud of its staff and recognizes that this achievement could not have been accomplished without the involvement and support of the community; and,

WHEREAS, since the award's establishment in 1966, Lee's Summit joins only two other agencies in the state of Missouri that...
