Body
WHEREAS, Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity International program seeking to empower women to take action against poverty housing conditions; and,

WHEREAS, since the first Women Build home was constructed in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1991, Women Build volunteers have worked on more than 1,650 houses in more than 30 countries around the world; and,

WHEREAS, Women Build encourages women to be involved in all phases of Habitat for Humanity projects, from planning through construction, teaching volunteers the skills necessary to build homes; and,

WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity Kansas City plans to construct two homes in Kansas City this year; the first in the Habitat KC subdivision, Pritchard Place, and the second in the Town Fork Creek neighborhood in the Green Impact Zone; and,

WHEREAS, National Women Build Week 2010 will take place May 1 through May 9, 2010, with the local Kansas City event taking place May 7, 2010; and,

WHEREAS, the 2010 theme for Women Build is "Women in Advocacy," bringing together women from a variety of backgrounds to affect change in the community; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature supports Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City and the upcoming Women Build event and extends sincere best wishes for continued success in the construction of homes and the building of communities.



Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
