Body
WHEREAS, Joseph Bushur, a Lee's Summit High School senior, has been named a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship program; and,

WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, founded in 1955, is a privately- financed, not-for-profit corporation that operates without government assistance, and provides National Merit Scholarship awards, worth approximately $33 million; and,

WHEREAS, National Merit Scholarships are underwritten by nearly 500 independent sponsor organizations and institutions as well as with the corporation's own funds; and,

WHEREAS, through his pursuit of academic excellence, Joseph has earned the designation of National Merit Scholarship finalist, carries a GPA of 4.50 on a 4.0 scale and is ranked 4th in his class of 430; and,

WHEREAS, Joseph has been an active student at Lee's Summit High, where he has been a member of the Marching Band and Symphonic Band, was involved in Theater Performance and Crew, was a member of National Honor Society, Scholar Bowl, and is an International Baccalaureate Diploma candidate; and,

WHEREAS, Joseph has also been involved as an A+ tutor, Tiger Mentor, was an all-state play cast member, English student of the year all four years of high school, received the Top One Percent Award, and Attended Missouri Scholars Academy and the Missouri Leadership Conference; and,

WHEREAS, Joseph plans to attend Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in the fall on the Harrison Scholarship and major in English, where he will be a part of the school's Honors and Scholars program; and,
