Body
WHEREAS, Brian Jochems, a Lee's Summit High School Senior, was selected for the 2009 Missouri Scholars 100, a statewide program that honors Missouri's top 100 academic students in the 2009 graduating class; and,

WHEREAS, to be considered for the Missouri Scholars 100, the student must have a minimum GPA of 3.75, a minimum ACT score of 29 or a minimum SAT score of 1,900, be ranked in the upper 10 percent of the class, have taken upper-level courses in mathematics, science, English and foreign language, have excellent attendance, be an exemplary school citizen and be involved in school activities; and,

WHEREAS, Brian has also been named a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship program; and,

WHEREAS, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, founded in 1955, is a privately- financed, not-for-profit corporation that operates without government assistance, and provides National Merit Scholarship awards, worth approximately $33 million; and,
WHEREAS, National Merit Scholarships are underwritten by nearly 500 independent sponsor organizations and institutions as well as with the corporation's own funds; and,

WHEREAS, Brian has a GPA of 4.568 on a 4.0 scale and is ranked 1 out of 430 students in his class; and,

WHEREAS, throughout high school Brian was involved in sports, including track and cross country, lettering in both, swimming, soccer, was a member of the Math Club, the Debate Team, Science Olympiad, Book Club, National Honor Society, Lee's Summit in Action Club, Theater, the Scholar Bowl and Tiger Mentor; and,
