Body
WHEREAS, since its inception in 1865, The Salvation Army has relied heavily on volunteers to support its programs; and,

WHEREAS, often referred to as "the army behind The Army," volunteers play a crucial role in The Salvation Army's ability to provide quality social services for the entire community; and,

WHEREAS, as of January 1, 2008, approximately 5,476 local volunteers have logged approximately 117,000 hours of charitable work; and,

WHEREAS, the volunteers are involved in numerous activities across the metro area including sorting eighty tons of coats and blankets for Project Warmth, painting, repairing and planting flowers for the Three trails Children's Camp in Independence, staffing the Angel Tree during Christmas, answering the phone banks for Adopt A Family, bell-ringing throughout the metro area, sorting and boxing 1,500 food boxes and bagging twenty tons of potatoes, serving meals to over 1,500 citizens during Thanksgiving and Christmas, and delivering gifts to and visiting with elderly citizens; and,

WHEREAS, volunteers are valuable assets in The Salvation Army's efforts, and through the skills and experience they bring to The Army, volunteers make significant contribution to society by positively impacting the lives of over 25,000 clients served each year; and,

WHEREAS, The Salvation Army volunteers change lives, uplift families, and support communities throughout the nation everyday; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes the 2009 Salvation Army Volunteers for their dedicated efforts in...
