Body
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., an international sorority and civic service organization founded in 1908, boasts a membership of over 200,000 women; and,
WHEREAS, the sorority's motto is "to be of service to all mankind" and service initiatives have included education, family, health, economics, and the arts; and,
WHEREAS, the Xi Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha was chartered in Grandview, MO, on July 16, 1983 and has provided invaluable services to the greater Kansas City metropolitan area for the past twenty-four years; and,
WHEREAS, local chapter programs have included Healthy Lifestyles Workshops for girls and women age 12 to adult, the Little Miss AKA Pageant, support of the American Cancer Society, voter registration, and tutoring and mentoring, just to name a few; and,
WHEREAS, as a tribute to Stacy Ann Hardwick, who personified commitment, community service, scholastic achievement, and perseverance, an annual scholarship was created in 1993 to provide financial support to outstanding and deserving high school seniors; and,
WHEREAS, in collaboration with Joyce Smith and support from the Hardwick family, there have been over 100 deserving students in the metropolitan area who have been awarded over $90,000 in scholarships through the Stacy Ann Hardwick Scholarship awards program; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes Xi Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., for its dedication and commitment to changing the lives of our community's youth by providing opportunities for them to experience the benefits of higher education and raising their awareness of ways to contribute to community betterment.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
