A RESOLUTION authorizing the Director of the Department of Finance to make payment in the amount of $6,508.44, representing certain taxes on real estate within Jackson County that has been sold or transferred since January 1, 2004, which were mistakenly not billed or collected on the County's 2003 tax bills.

Body
WHEREAS, due to an error in the Collection Department in preparing the County's 2004 tax bills, the City of Kansas City's parks and trafficways tax, totalling $77,830.61, was omitted from the bills for 5,763 parcels, and the County's merchants and manufacturers' replacement tax, totalling $172,022.45, was omitted from the tax bills for 243 parcels; and,
WHEREAS, the Collection Department has sent corrected billings to the record owners of these parcels, and will recoup these taxes in this fashion, except for 226 parcels which have been sold or transferred since January 1, 2004; and,
WHEREAS, the Director of Collection recommends that the County pay the erroneously unbilled taxes on these 226 parcels, totalling $6,508.44, as any attempt to bill these parcels, which have likely received clear title insurance commitments, could result in expensive claims and/or litigation; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Director of the Department of Finance be and hereby is authorized to make payment in the amount of $6,508.44, representing erroneously unbilled taxes on 226 transferred parcels pursuant to the specific direction of the Director of Collection.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
