RESOLUTION # 14929, March 1, 2004

INTRODUCED BY Henry C. Rizzo, County Legislator

Body
WHEREAS, by Senate Bill 184 (Laws 2003), the Missouri General Assembly required the State Highway Patrol to maintain a searchable internet website that lists registered sex offenders within the state; and,

WHEREAS, the obligation imposed upon the Highway Patrol by this bill was subject to the availability of funding; and,

WHEREAS, the Highway Patrol has advised that funding limitations have made it such that it will not have it statewide website up and running for a few months; and,

WHEREAS, the Legislature believes it's important that Jackson County residents have access to this listing, at least for those sex offenders registered in Jackson County, until such time as the statewide website comes on line; and,

WHEREAS, the Sheriff has advised that it would be feasible to post his office's Jackson County sex offender registry on the Sheriff's page on the County's website, to be replaced by a link to the statewide registry as soon as it's available; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri that the Legislature urges the administration to post the County sex offender registry on the Sheriff's page on the County's website, to be replaced by a link to the statewide sex offender registry on the Highway Patrol's website when available.
