AN ORDINANCE appropriating $30,000.00 from the unappropriated surplus of the 2000 Health Fund for the Gun Buy-Back Program to be administered by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference requesting the support of the County Legislature for this program, and authorizing the County Executive to execute a contract with Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

WHEREAS, because of the increased crime rate in Jackson County, a gun buy-back program has been implemented as a step in combating violence by removing guns from the street; and,
WHEREAS, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, along with the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, have previously sponsored and wish to again support this program and have requested the support of Jackson County; and,
WHEREAS, an appropriation is necessary to participate in funding for the Gun Buy-Back Program to be administered by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference; therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the following appropriation from the unappropriated surplus of the 2000 Health Fund be and hereby is made:

and,
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that the County Legislature hereby expresses its support to participate in the Gun Buy-Back Program; and,
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that the County Executive be and hereby is authorized to execute an agreement with Southern Christian Leadership Conference, in a general form to be approved by the County Counselor.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its signature by the County Executive.
