RESOLUTION 12220, May 18, 1998

INTRODUCED BY John C. Graham, County Legislator

Body
WHEREAS, Lee's Summit North High School senior Daniel Parris has been named The Kansas City Star's boys high school Scholar-Athlete of the Year; and,

WHEREAS, Daniel is not only a top scholar and star athlete but is also an artist; and,

WHEREAS, with a 4.53 GPA, Daniel completes his high school career as class salutatorian; and,

WHEREAS, Daniel is also a National Merit finalist and an International Baccalaureate Diploma candidate; and,

WHEREAS, as Lee's Summit North's premier long distance runner and swimmer, Daniel has received numerous awards, including four letters in cross country, four in swimming, and three in track and field; and,

WHEREAS, Daniel holds the school records in the 5-kilometer run and in the 800, 1,600, and 3,000 meter runs; and,

WHEREAS, he also holds all-district, all-sectional, All-Metro, and all-state in cross country, six-time all-conference in track and field, and all-state in swimming; and,

WHEREAS, Daniel's passion for art allows him a way to express himself, and his original "LSN Bronco" drawing now hangs in Lee's Summit North's administrative offices; and,

WHEREAS, in school he has served as President of Future Business Leaders of America, Vice President of Bronco Smart (a drug awareness group), and served as a member of the Math Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, and National Art Honor Society; and,

WHEREAS, Daniel is also a member of the First Baptist Church of Raytown youth group and Kansas City Blazers USS swim team; and,

WHEREAS, Daniel will attend Stanford University where he plans to major in engineering or another chemistry/math related course of study, and will run...
