Body
WHEREAS, the voters of Jackson County, Missouri, renewed their sales tax for seven years to provide funding for the fight against illegal drugs in our community; and,

WHEREAS, the proceeds and interest generated from this tax are deposited in a special Jackson County Anti-Drug Sales Tax Trust Fund that is segregated and not commingled with the general fund or any other special funds of the County; and,

WHEREAS, the voters and the Legislature authorized the COMBAT Commission, subject to approval by the Legislature, to contract with any organization or entity, whether public or private, which engages in community crime prevention activities, for the purpose of preventing drug and drug-related offenses; and,

WHEREAS, by Resolution 13894, dated November 5, 2001, the County did award contracts to agencies which engage in community crime prevention activities, at a total cost of $1,433,962 in calendar year 2002; and,


WHEREAS, the COMBAT Commission desires to further assist these organizations in the provision of services and has recommended the continued expenditure of anti-drug sales tax funds for these organizations, in the respective amounts set forth on the document attached hereto as Exhibit A, to assist in the prevention drug and drug-related offenses; now therefore,
