Body
WHEREAS, Cameron White, an incoming freshman at Lee's Summit West High School, was selected from among 4,500 applicants to attend the Joseph Baldwin Academy for Eminent Young Scholars, held annually at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri; and,
WHEREAS, the Joseph Baldwin Academy is a summer program of two three-week sessions for gifted students going into grades eight through ten; and,
WHEREAS, this year's program hosted 412 highly talented students from around the nation, all of whom must be ranked in the 95th percentile of their school's standard achievement exams; and,
WHEREAS, prior to attending the Academy, Cameron was an honor roll student at Summit Lakes Middle School in the Lee's Summit R-7 School District, where he was nominated for this prestigious honor; and,
WHEREAS, at the Academy, students may choose from courses in all areas of the liberal arts, including the humanities, fine arts, natural sciences, and social sciences and Cameron enrolled in a psychology of pop culture class during his session; and,
WHEREAS, in his spare time, Cameron enjoys playing the saxophone, art, drawing, and architecture and he has participated in numerous workshops at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art; and,
WHEREAS, Cameron is a graduate of the Lee's Summit ASPIRE program for gifted students; and,
WHEREAS, Cameron's parents, Danielle Theiss and Shawn White, are justifiably proud of their son; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Cameron White upon his selection to participate in the Joseph Baldwin A...
