Body
WHEREAS, Rebecca Andrew, a junior at the University of Kansas, has been a member of the KU swim team since 1994; and,
WHEREAS, in her freshman year, Rebecca won the Big 8 Conference championship in the 100-yard butterfly event and, most recently, won the conference championship in the 50-yard freestyle; and,
WHEREAS, Rebecca's times rank second all-time in KU history for the women's 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events; and,
WHEREAS, for her strong swimming efforts, Rebecca has been recognized each of the last three years by the National Collegiate Athletic Association as an "All American;" and,
WHEREAS, just this past weekend, Rebecca competed in the NCAA Swimming Championships in Ann Arbor, Michigan; and,
WHEREAS, Rebecca was recently recognized by the University as a "Jayhawk Scholar," a distinction accorded to those varsity athletes who maintain a 3.0 grade point average; and,
WHEREAS, Rebecca is a graduate of Hickman Mills High School where she was a four-time All-Metro swimmer and each year finished among the top three swimmers in events at the Missouri State Championships; and,
WHEREAS, Rebecca's parents, Jackson County Public Works Director Mac Andrew and his wife, Karen, are justifiably proud of her athletic and academic accomplishments; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri that Rebecca Andrew be congratulated for her many dedicated hours of swim practice to elevate herself to the level of "All American."Attorney
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
