A RESOLUTION congratulating Corinthian Hall, the historic home of the Kansas City Museum, on the occasion of Corinthian Hall's 100th Anniversary.


RESOLUTION #17205, March 15, 2010

INTRODUCED BY Henry C. Rizzo, Dan Tarwater, Theresa Garza Ruiz, Fred Arbanas, Scott Burnett, James D. Tindall, Dennis Waits, Greg Grounds and Bob Spence, County Legislators


WHEREAS, Corinthian Hall, former residence of Robert A. Long and his family, and the historic home of Kansas City Museum, was built in 1910, and is Kansas City's first museum of local and regional history; and,

WHEREAS, this year, Kansas City Museum will be celebrating each month with a series of lectures, workshops, books, films and seminars that highlight Corinthian Hall's unique architecture and the Long family's deep and abiding commitment to the civic well-being of Kansas City; and,

WHEREAS, Kansas City Museum has continued a meaningful visitorship in the on-site Visitor Center and welcomed 16,000 visitors in the past year; and,

WHEREAS, the "Community Curator" program that makes the Museum's Collections accessible in print, online and in-person at guest lectures has continued to be successful, and will include collections from R. Crosby Kemper III, David Dowell, Elizabeth Rosin, and the Smithsonian Visiting Scholar Program this year; and,
WHEREAS, the museum continues an extensive renovation and restoration on the 3 acre plot located atop a bluff overlooking the Missouri River Valley, but is still continuing to provide programs and exhibitions to the people of Kansas City; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature congratulates Corinthian Hall on the occasion of its 100th Anniversary.



Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
