Body
WHEREAS, John and Esther McMurray have been in the icy sweets and treats business for forty-three years at the Dairy Queen on Independence Boulevard; and,
WHEREAS, the store has been in the same location since July 4, 1952, and Esther began working for the original owner thirteen years before purchasing and taking over the business on January 1, 1980; and,
WHEREAS, the McMurrays' have seen four generations come through over the years, with many loyal customers that come back long after leaving the neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, Esther said that not a day goes by that they don't help at least one person in need of water, a bite to eat, or a helping hand; and,
WHEREAS, the World Famous Dilly Bars, ice cream on a stick dipped in chocolate, are made fresh by the McMurrays' at this location; and,
WHEREAS, the McMurrays' celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in September, and plan to keep the Dairy Queen running "as long as the Lord gives them good health"; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates John and Esther McMurray on forty-three years in the ice cream business, and on the joyous occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
