Body
WHEREAS, Raymond (Ray) Vanscoy of Lee's Summit, Missouri, departed this life on January 14, 2008; and,

WHEREAS, Ray was born on August 14, 1928, in Harrisonville, MO; and,

WHEREAS, Ray was a founding member of the Prairie Township Fire Protection District and Rescue Unit, the Lake Lotawana Fire Protection District, and the Lee's Summit Underwater Recovery team; and,

WHEREAS, Ray was a United States Naval Reserve veteran, a former officer of the Lake Lotawana Police Department, and a member of the American Red Cross; and,

WHEREAS, Ray was the proud owner of R&R Meat for more than 50 years where his easy smile and charismatic personality made everyone feel special; and,


WHEREAS, Ray served on the Jackson County Plan Commission from 1970 until his untimely death, having never missed a meeting, and was a commissioned Deputy Sheriff of Jackson County; and,

WHEREAS, Ray was serving as Chairman of the Prairie Township Fire Protection District Board and even in death wanted to continue to serve by setting up a scholarship fund for the firefighters; and,

WHEREAS, Raymond L. Vanscoy is survived by his wife of nineteen years, Patricia, his daughter, Debra Hamilton, his son Randy and wife Teresa, his step-daughters, Tricia Hilty and husband Joe, and Tara Kneeshaw and husband Dan, and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby recognizes Ray Vanscoy, and extends its deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and colleagues upon the occasion of his untimely death.
