Body
WHEREAS, Dianne Sanderson is the President of Animals Best Friends, a volunteer non-profit organization in Independence; and,

WHEREAS, the mission of Animals Best Friends is to effectively contribute to the humane care and treatment of shelter animals, maximize adoptions, minimize euthanizations, increase public awareness to reduce companion animal over-population, and to enhance responsible lifetime ownership of companion animals; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Sanderson and Animals Best Friends, which has 50 volunteers, have been providing safety and shelter for abused and neglected animals since 1995; and,

WHEREAS, her volunteer efforts have greatly contributed to increased animal adoptions and decreased euthanasia at the Animal Control Department of Independence; and,

WHEREAS, her activism has heightened public awareness of animal rights and pet owner responsibilities; and,
WHEREAS, in September 2000, Ms. Sanderson and Animals Best Friends dedicated more than 500 community service hours to the Independence Animal Shelter, helping it place more than 193 animals with responsible pet owners and returning more than 77 lost pets to their families; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Sanderson and Animals Best Friends have a goal of building a rescue center for adoptable shelter animals until good homes are found; and,

WHEREAS, the group's most immediate tasks are to find a donated site for the rescue center, raise money for the structure, and begin building it; and,

WHEREAS, in September 2000, the Missouri Animal Control Association in Columbia recognized Ms. Sanderson's outstanding achievements by presenting her its statewide "Paws for A...
