Body
WHEREAS, at the direction of the Administration and the ad hoc Risk Insurance Committee, the County's employee benefits consultants, Robert D. O'Byrne & Associates and the McDaniel Hazley Group, have solicited proposals for the providing of employee voluntary long-term disability insurance, which would supplement the County's existing self-funded disability plan; and,
WHEREAS, the consultants received and evaluated proposals from Standard Life Insurance Co., Fortis Benefits Insurance Co., and Metropolitan Life Insurance Co; and,
WHEREAS, the consultants and the Risk Insurance Committee recommend that the plan of Standard Life Insurance Co. be offered to County employees; and,
WHEREAS, under Standard's plan, Standard would become the plan administrator of the County-funded plan, which would remain in place; and,
WHEREAS, employees would be able to purchase long-term disability benefits which would commence upon the expiration of the County benefit, for either an additional five years or until age 65, at the employee's option; and,
WHEREAS, rates will be dependent on each employee's age and salary, and will be guaranteed by Standard for two years; and,
WHEREAS, the offering of this long-term disability plan to County employees is in the best interests of the health, welfare, and safety of the citizens of Jackson County; now therefore,
