Body
WHEREAS, the fees charged by the Clerk of the Legislature for the issuance of a notary commission has not been increased since 1978; and,

WHEREAS, the clerk's current fee is generally below that of other jurisdictions, such that a modest increase is now appropriate; and,

WHEREAS, additionally, the clerk's fee schedule should be amended to delete the fee certification of a notary's signature, an act now performed only by the Secretary of State, and to add the fee for notarization of a signature authorized by ยง 486.350, RSMo Supp 2005; and,

WHEREAS, such amendments are in the best interests of the health, welfare, and safety of the citizens of Jackson County; now therefore,

BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, as follows:

Section A. Enacting Clause. Section 255., Jackson County Code, 1984, is hereby repealed and one new section enacted in lieu thereof, to be known as section 255., to read as follows:

Fees, County Clerk.
The Clerk of the County Legislature shall charge the following fees for the following services.

255.1 Notary Commission.
The fee for [issuing] issuance of a notary commission is [three] five dollars ($[3] 5). 255.2 [Certifying Signature.
The fee for certifying the signature of a notary is one dollar ($1).]
Notarization of Signature.
The fee for notarization of any signature is two dollars ($2) per signature.

Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Ordinance shall be effective immediately upon its signature by the County Executive.
