Body
WHEREAS, World Mental Health Day was established on October 10, 1992, by the World Federation for Mental Health; and,
WHEREAS, the World Federation for Mental Health is an international organization founded in 1948 to advance, among all peoples and nations, the prevention of mental and emotional disorders, the proper treatment and care of those with such disorders and the promotion of mental health; and,
WHEREAS, since then, it has been observed every year with the aim of raising awareness in the global community about critical mental health agendas through collaboration with various partners to act and create lasting change; and,
WHEREAS, over the years, the day has gained momentum, becoming a platform for governments, organizations, and individuals to develop initiatives that focus on various aspects of mental health care; and,
WHEREAS, governmental, non-profit organizations, individuals and other organizations are working on a daily basis in Jackson County to address this critical issue and help save lives, restore families and enhance the safety and well-being of our community; and,
WHEREAS, said recognition is in the best interest of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Jackson County; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri that October 10, 2024, be recognized as World Mental Health Day.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
