Body
WHEREAS, Leslie Tiensvold of Truman High School was named by The Kansas City Star as her school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2002; and,

WHEREAS, Leslie ranks second in her class of 365, with a 4.40 grade point average on a 4.0 scale; and,

WHEREAS, she has seven varsity letters, four in soccer, two in cross country, and one in softball; and,

WHEREAS, she was all district and two-time captain in soccer; and,

WHEREAS, Leslie is a member of the National Honor Society and has received several awards for academic achievement including, the McCoy Medal Academic Award (2001), the National English Merit Award (2002), the Presidential Educational Excellence Award (2002), and the 2002 George Washington Carver Award for being in the top 10% of her graduating class; and,

WHEREAS, her school activities included French Club(1998-2002), National Forensics League (1998-2002), Math Club (2001-2002), National French Honor Society (2001-2002), PATS - Patriot's Assisting and Tutoring Students (2001-2002) and Soccer Club (1987-2002); and

WHEREAS, she served as a volunteer for the Kansas City Zoo, the Kansas City Museum, the Union Station and as an A+ tutor for Ott Elementary School; and,

WHEREAS, she is a member of Church of Christ Church in Oak Grove, Missouri; and,

WHEREAS, "I feel honored to have been able to know and work with Leslie for three years," said Diana Basler, Leslie's Truman High School counselor. "She represents the best in high school students by integrating honesty, integrity, hard work, positive outlook, respect, courtesy, diligence and ambition into her daily life;" and,
