Body
WHEREAS, six fourth and fifth grade students at Richardson Elementary School in Lee's Summit, Missouri won the Battle of the Brains competition announced November 21, 2011 at Union Station; and,

WHEREAS, the Battle of the Brains competition was sponsored by the Burns & McDonnell engineering firm of Kansas City, Missouri, which challenged area students to design a new exhibit for Union Station's Science City; and,

WHEREAS, the winning students were fourth-graders Kellen Sharpe, Taylor Phillips, and Natalie Rolen and fifth-graders Kathleen Love, Abby Rolen, and Nicholas Whited, all members of Jennifer Reidlinger's gifted education class at Richardson Elementary; and,

WHEREAS, the students' winning exhibit was a Hall of Magnets, which would explore the basic concepts of magnetism and electricity; and,

WHEREAS, the students were honored with the $50,000 top prize in the elementary division of the Battle of the Brains competition, which started with 560 entries from 2,500 students at 128 area schools; and,

WHEREAS, the prize money is to be used for science, technology, engineering, and math education at the winning schools and the students will have the privilege of helping determine how the prize money will be spent; and,

WHEREAS, Pleasant Lee Elementary and Woodland Elementary in the Lee's Summit R-7 School District were finalists in the competition and will each receive $2,500; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Jennifer Reidlinger, Kellen Sharpe, Taylor Phillips, Natalie Rolen, Kathleen Love, Abby Rolen, Nic...
