WHEREAS, Tony Aguirre was born February 8, 1929, in Kansas City and began a career in coaching at the Guadalupe Center at the age of seventeen; and,
WHEREAS, Tony was an outstanding athlete who generously shared his athletic skills, leadership, and positive values by mentoring thousands of youth throughout his sixty years of coaching; and,
WHEREAS, as a testament to his status in the community, Tony was nicknamed FISH which stands for Friendship, Intelligence, Sportsmanship, and Honesty; and,
WHEREAS, Tony received numerous awards for his service to the community and was recognized for his contributions in July 2000 with the designation of the Westside Community Center as the Tony Aguirre Community Center; and,
WHEREAS, Tony passed away well, well before his time on March 1, 2006; and,
WHEREAS, on February 8, 2007, the day marking Tony's 78th birthday, a commemorative bronze plaque and display case will be unveiled to preserve the memory of a man who was loved by all; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature recognizes Tony Aguirre for his everlasting contributions to the West side community and joins in the celebration of the dedication commemorating a devoted and generous man.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
