Body
WHEREAS, Bridgett Neff, a sophomore at Lee's Summit High School in the Lee's Summit R-7 School District, was recently selected to attend the Missouri Scholars Academy, a three-week academic program for approximately 330 of Missouri's gifted students; and,
WHEREAS, the Missouri Scholars Academy, now in its twenty-seventh year, is a residential program at the University of Missouri - Columbia; and,
WHEREAS, the Academy reflects Missouri's desire to strive for excellence in education at all levels; and,
WHEREAS, the program is based on the premise that Missouri's gifted youth must be provided with special opportunities for learning and personal development in order for them to realize their full potential; and,
WHEREAS, students nominated to attend the Academy are selected on the basis of their intelligence and aptitude tests, grade point average, student essays, evidence of leadership, creativity, intellectual curiosity, problem-solving ability and initiative, and a commitment to remain at the Academy throughout the entire three-week experience; and,
WHEREAS, the Academy features carefully selected faculty and staff, a specially designed curriculum that focuses on the liberal arts, and a variety of stimulating extracurricular activities; and,
WHEREAS, Bridgett's parents, Eric and Karla Neff, are justifiably proud of their daughter; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Bridgett Neff upon the occasion of her selection to attend the Missouri Scholars Academy, and extends best wishes to her in all of her future endeavors.
