Body
WHEREAS, in response to the tragedy of September 11 and its devastating effect on families across the nation, Angela Castle of the Prosecuting Attorney's Office initiated the "Taking Care of Kansas City" toy drive on behalf of 1,500 children of unemployed persons in the Kansas City area; and,

WHEREAS, the Taking Care of Kansas City Committee worked tirelessly with a group of local business leaders in the Kansas City community to make sure that local residents who lost their jobs in the wake of the tragedy had goodies for their children during the holidays; and,

WHEREAS, businesses and individuals dropped off new and gently used toys at local area businesses, schools, and churches; and,

WHEREAS, thousands of toys were piled high and overflowing from large decorated cardboard boxes; and,
WHEREAS, the donated items were given away to hundreds of families who flocked to Union Station on December 12, 2001, for the "Taking Care of Kansas City Toy Drive" giveaway; and,

WHEREAS, the generosity of the community moved Angela to tears, saying "It's really an unpleasant thing to lose your job, and we wanted to make the holidays a little merrier for people;" and,

WHEREAS, admiration and respect go out to Angela for her sincere dedication and commitment to the children of unemployed persons directly affected by the tragedy of September 11; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby commends Angela Castle ...
