Body
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Labor has brought claims against the County alleging violations of the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act arising out of the County's alleged failure to compensate 36 shift sergeants in the Department of Corrections for meal periods; and,

WHEREAS, after extensive research and investigation of these claims, the County's special counsel has recommended that these claims be settled in an aggregate amount not to exceed $49,365.07; and,

WHEREAS, this settlement is in the best interest of the health, welfare, and safety of the citizens of the County; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the County Counselor be, and hereby is, authorized to settle the claims of the United States Department of Labor in an aggregate amount not to exceed $49,365.07.
Attorney
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
