Body
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Jackson County Legislature to ensure the safe regulation and operation of wreckers and tow services operating in the Jackson County area; and,

WHEREAS, in an effort to give tow operators ample time to comply, the effective date will be extended to April 1, 2026; and,

WHEREAS, Jackson County will notify other surrounding municipalities of the change in the effective date to ensure that no license requirements are enforced prior to the effective date; and,

WHEREAS, the Legislature desires to create a new section in Chapter 52 regarding wreckers and tow services; now therefore,

BE IT ORDAINED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, as follows:
Section A. Enacting Clause. Subsection 5293.2, Jackson County Code, 1984, are hereby enacted, to read as follows:
5293.2. Effective [January 1, 2026] April 1, 2026, the fee for the license shall be set at $500.00 per year, per business, location and $100.00 per vehicle, per business location, per year, and said license shall be issued on or before January 1 of each subsequent year and expire on December 31, of that year. There will be no prorating for this fee. Fees shall be paid annually to the Jackson County Clerk's Office, and all revenue shall be given to or benefit the Housing Resources Commission.































Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Ordinance shall be effective April 1, 2026, upon its signature by the County Executive.
