Body
WHEREAS, the Missouri Gold Star Award Recognition was awarded to just 42 schools throughout the state of Missouri; and,
WHEREAS, McCoy School was one of only fifteen elementary schools and the only school in the Kansas City Missouri School District to win the prestigious award; and,
WHEREAS, the Gold Star award honors schools for their effective leadership, innovative instructional programs, and high levels of parental and community involvement; and,
WHEREAS, on November 17, 2000, during an assembly of McCoy school and the neighboring community, Kansas City School Superintendent Benjamin Demps, Jr., and Board President Helen Ragsdale presented McCoy Elementary with the award; and,
WHEREAS, the success of McCoy as a true community school comes from its students, teachers, and the leadership of Principal Jo Lynn Nemeth; and,
WHEREAS, for the past seven years Mr. Nemeth has worked with teachers, parents, and community leaders to ensure that all students achieve at the highest level; and,
WHEREAS, McCoy Elementary is a Missouri Caring Communities site and has recently opened its Panda Place Wellness Center to the surrounding community, not just students and their parents; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates McCoy Elementary School upon its receipt of the Gold Star award for its achievements and academic excellence.
Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
