Body
WHEREAS, in our community, there is a need for more than 85,000 units of blood per year for the protection of patients; and,
WHEREAS, there is a need for additional healthy, regular volunteer donors to join the ranks of those who already give of themselves so generously; and,
WHEREAS, the need for human blood never ends and no substitutes or replacements have yet been found; and,
WHEREAS, President Clinton has declared January to be National Volunteer Blood Donor Month; and,
WHEREAS, County employees have pledged their commitment to the ill and injured treated in the Kansas City area by hosting a blood drive each August, a time when blood is often in short supply; and,
WHEREAS, County employee, Thomas B. Mullen at the Assessment Department has donated in excess of twenty gallons of blood and has volunteered his time to help thousands of area patients who rely on transfusions of blood and blood components; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby proclaims the month of January as Volunteer Blood Donor Month in Jackson County and urge all of its citizens to pay tribute to Thomas B. Mullen and all those who donate for others in need and to share in the joy of saving lives by donating blood regularly.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
