Body
WHEREAS, the Northeast News was founded in 1932 to serve the Northeast community at large; and,
WHEREAS, the Northeast News is a bilingual newspaper, serving both the English and Spanish-speaking communities; and,
WHEREAS, the Northeast News takes pride in the residency of all of its employees and subcontractors in the urban core; and,
WHEREAS, additionally, 100% of the newspaper's staff reside in Kansas City's Historic Northeast neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, the newspaper was purchased on July 1, 1998, by Michael Bushnell and Christine Adams; and,
WHEREAS, Norma Mason, a 35-year veteran of the printing and design industry, serves as editor in chief, and Brad Finch, a local Kansas City historian, joined the staff as photo editor; and,
WHEREAS, together Michael, Chris, Norm, and Brad began a series of changes to the then Shopper paper to create a weekly, editorially driven community "NEWS" paper that would act as an advocate and a voice for the Historic Northeast community; and,
WHEREAS, on September 26, 1998, that goal was achieved when the first Northeast News, free of adds on the front page, rolled off the presses; and,
WHEREAS, the Northeast News began the Historic Northeast Community Betterment Award (now in its third year), recognizing neighborhood residents for improving the quality of life in their areas; and,
WHEREAS, the Northeast News is sponsoring the Northeast Family Life project, which allows neighborhood residents to access the internet from the lobby of the Northeast News; and,
WHEREAS, through its monthly section entitled "Northeast Business Leaders," the Northeast News spotlights area business leaders and their contributions to the...
