Body

WHEREAS, the First Mexican Baptist Church was established in 1916 by Pastor M.A. Urbina and fifteen members, with the first services held at 624 W. 24th Street on Kansas City's west side and was accepted into the fellowship of the Blue River Baptist Association in 1917; and,

WHEREAS, the Blue River Baptist Association gave the church its first building at 2128 Madison in 1919 and, in 1920, the Women's Missionary Union of the Blue River Baptist Association began a daycare ministry at the church; and,

WHEREAS, in 1945 the Blue River Baptist Association donated a new home to the church at 801 W. 23rd Street, a street later renamed as Avenida Cesar E. Chavez Street, where services continue to be held today; and,

WHEREAS, in 1989 the daycare ministry closed after sixty-nine (69) successful years of service to westside families; and,

WHEREAS, the sixteenth and current pastor, Randy Schmidt, was called to service in 1995 after he and his family spent the previous ten years as Southern Baptist missionaries in Argentina; and,

WHEREAS, in an effort to reach out to all area community members, the church's name was changed to First Baptist Church Westside in 1996; and,

WHEREAS, Arnaldo Achucarro, a native of Asuncion, Paraguay, was called to service as the Minister of Worship and Youth in 2003; and,

WHEREAS, a new 2,100 square foot fellowship hall was dedicated in June 2004; and,

WHEREAS, the current membership of 170 enjoys weekly Sunday morning worship and Bible study in both English and Spanish languages; now therefore,
