Title
A RESOLUTION expressing the intention of the Legislature to allocate in the 1996 Jackson County budget, additional county general sales tax revenues for parks and recreation purposes, including the operation and maintenance of the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex.

Intro
RESOLUTION # 10970, October 2, 1995

INTRODUCED BY John Patrick Burnett, County Legislator

Body
WHEREAS, Jackson County now imposes a county wide sales tax at the rate of one-half of one percent, for general county purposes, pursuant to 67.500 et seq., RSMo 1994; and,

WHEREAS, by law, seventy percent of the proceeds of this tax must be used to reduce the County's total property tax collections; and,

WHEREAS, the County has discretion to allocate the required property tax reductions among its various property tax levies, i.e. general, health, park, and special road and bridge, in any manner it deems appropriate; and,

WHEREAS, due to pressing needs in areas traditionally funded by the park levy, including operations of the Parks and Recreation Department and the operation and maintenance of the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex, the Legislature believes it appropriate to allocate a larger portion of the required sales tax reduction to the special road and bridge levy, so as to make available the equivalent of the funds which would be generated by an additional two cents per $100 increase in the park levy, for these purposes; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature intends to allocate additional general sales tax revenues for parks and recreation purposes including the operation and maintenance of the Harry S. Truman Sports Complex, as set out above.
Attorney
