Body
WHEREAS, Martha Gershun, Executive Director of Jackson County CASA, recently received the Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership Award, presented by Support Kansas City; and,

WHEREAS, this prestigious award recognizes Ms. Gershun's strong fiscal management and sound strategic focus as the leader of a high performing agency with a budget of $1 million or less; and,

WHEREAS, CASA staff and volunteers serve as advocates for over 800 abused and neglected children in the court system each year; and,

WHEREAS, through CASA's efforts children are usually in the system for less time and are less likely to be re-abused; and,

WHEREAS, under Ms. Gershun's leadership, Jackson County CASA's Light of Hope benefit has become Greater Kansas City's largest breakfast fundraising even with more than 1,000 in attendance; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Gershun also led the effort to purchase the historic home in which CASA's offices are housed near the Jackson County Family Court, saving the organization over $40,000.00; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Gershun holds a bachelor of arts degree from Harvard University, a Master's in Business Administration from Harvard Business School, and a graduate degree in economics from the University of Stirling, Scotland, where she was a Rotary International Fellow; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Gershun's impressive resume includes serving as the Dean and Center Director for Keller Graduate School of Management, Chief Executive Officer of BizSpace, Assistant Vice President of Knowle...
