Body
WHEREAS, Nick Swearngin, former Lee's Summit City Councilman and owner of John's Barbershop, has been awarded the 2012 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser Award presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Mid-America Chapter; and,

WHEREAS, Nick was nominated for the award by Nancy DuVall of Hope House domestic violence shelter for his numerous contributions to the organization; and,

WHEREAS, Nick has hosted events for the benefit of Hope House since 2008, most significantly the "Bald Eagle" fundraiser in which Nick and other recruits auction off the opportunity for the recruits to have their heads shaved; and

WHEREAS, in 2011, Nick's commitment to the cause rose to new heights when he dyed his hair and beard pink and wore a shirt that said, "I did this for Hope House. What are you doing?", increasing donations by nearly 300 percent; and,

WHEREAS, Nick's fundraising events have raised nearly $27,000.00 for Hope House over the past five years; and,

WHEREAS, Nick is a longtime community leader, having served on the Lee's Summit City Council from 2005 to 2010; and,

WHEREAS, Nick took over his father's barber shop, John's Barber Shop, nearly five years ago and through the barber shop has sponsored teams for Lee's Summit Baseball Association and Lee's Summit Soccer Association for many years; and,

WHEREAS, while a member of the City Council, Nick traveled with a group to Gulfport, Mississippi, to volunteer in Hurricane Katrina relief; and,

WHEREAS, it is through Nick's inspiration that many throughout the Lee's Summit community have been motivated to join in...
