Body
WHEREAS, Marilyn Simmons began her service to the Kansas City School District in 1985 when her oldest child entered kindergarten; and,

WHEREAS, Marilyn first served as a homeroom mother, then as a member and chair of the School Advisory Committee, before moving on to serving on the District Advisory Committee; and,

WHEREAS, in 1996 Marilyn was appointed to serve on the Kansas City School Board to fill a vacancy; and,

WHEREAS, Marilyn was elected to the Board in 2002, representing sub-district 6, and became Board president in 2008; and,

WHEREAS, it has been the taxpayers, parents, and grandparents of the district's students who have provided her strongest support; and,

WHEREAS, in her various roles in the school district, Marilyn has worked to help parents become effective advocates for their children; and,

WHEREAS, Marilyn has worked to unite the school board and has brought accountability to the board's functions; and,

WHEREAS, Marilyn resigned her school board seat June 8, 2011, and her strong and passionate voice in support of the children of Kansas City will be missed; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates and extends best wishes to Marilyn Simmons for twenty-five years of dedicated and loyal service to the children and parents of the Kansas City School District.















Enacted and Approved
Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
