Body
WHEREAS, Lauren and Scott Sterling of Blue Springs, MO, recently adopted five orphaned siblings from Peru, an event that has landed them unexpected worldwide media attention; and,
WHEREAS, Lauren and Scott were moved to act after they received an email a year ago describing the orphan's plight; and,
WHEREAS, the five siblings had been living in an orphanage for seven years after their parents died from tuberculosis, but they refused to be separated making it difficult for them to all be adopted together; and
WHEREAS, after much soul searching and prayer, Lauren and Scott made the decision to adopt the siblings and bring them to join their daughters, Logan and Laney, at their home in Blue Springs; and,
WHEREAS, the five siblings, Yhonson, Gerson, Betsi, Joel, and Sibila, are getting settled in their new home and have started attending local schools; and,
WHEREAS, the national media picked up Lauren and Scott's story and recently the family was featured on the daytime television show "The View" where it was announced that Avila University of Kansas City, MO, was giving all seven of the children $500,000.00 in scholarships; and,
WHEREAS, Lauren is the daughter of Linda Malone, Legislative Aide to Bob Spence; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Lauren and Scott Sterling on the occasion of the adoption of five siblings from Peru and the award of a scholarship for the benefit of their family.
