WHEREAS, Fred Arbanas, Jackson County Legislator for the 3rd District At-Large, celebrates his 70th birthday on January 14, 2009; and,
WHEREAS, Fred has served in the Jackson County Legislature since its inception in 1973, is a four-time Chairman of the Legislature, and takes great pleasure in overseeing the County's 22,000 acre park system as Chairman of the Legislature Land Use Committee; and,
WHEREAS, Fred was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs from 1961 to 1970, is a six time AFL All-Pro, and was inducted to the Chiefs "Hall of Fame" in 1973, along with the Missouri Sports "Hall of Fame" in 1997; and,
WHEREAS, in recognition of Fred's long service to the County, the Longview Lake Golf Course was renamed the Fred Arbanas Golf Course at Longview Lake on January 14, 1999; and,
WHEREAS, it is Fred's intention to run, once again, for County Legislator when his term expires in 2010, as he still enjoys serving the County's citizens; and,
WHEREAS, Fred's wife, Sharon, and his four children and eight grandchildren all join in celebrating his 70th birthday; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the County Legislature of Jackson County, Missouri, that the Legislature hereby congratulates Fred Arbanas on his 70th birthday celebration and extends best wishes and sincere gratitude for his contributions to the Jackson County community.

Effective Date: This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its passage by a majority of the Legislature.
