Body
Whereas, the voters of Jackson County, Missouri, approved imposition of a sales tax for seven years
to provide funding for the fight against illegal drugs in our community; and,

WHEREAS, the proceeds and interest generated from this tax are deposited in a special Jackson County Anti-Drug Sales Tax Trust Fund that is segregated and not commingled with the general fund or any other special funds of the County; and,

WHEREAS, by Ordinance 2214, dated July 12, 1993, the Legislature authorized the Prosecuting Attorney to provide the local matching funds to federal, state, and private grants to programs ser ing the purposes of the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of drug and drug-related offenses; nd,

WHEREAS, the Whatsoever Community Center has requested matching funds in the amount of $24,000, to match grants from the United Way, in the amount of $18,476, Boatmen's Foundation, in the amount of $10,000, and from the Housing Authority of Kansas City, in the amount of $20,000; and,

WHEREAS, Whatsoever Community Center engages in community crime prevention activities, has been in existence for at least five years, and is otherwise qualified to contract with the County for the expenditure of anti-drug sales tax funds; and,

WHEREAS, the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney desires to assist Whatsoever Community Center in the provision of services and has recommended the expenditure of anti-drug sales tax funds, as set out in the attached agreement, to assist in the prevention of drug and drug-related offenses; now therefore,
