AN ORDINANCE appropriating $235,690.00 from the undesignated fund balance of the 2021 CARES Act Fund to allow for an additional allocation to food banks and other food providers in Jackson County to ensure that food insecurity is minimized in the wake of the full economic impact of the ongoing Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic and authorizing the County Executive to execute Addenda to the existing Cooperative Agreements with certain agencies, at an aggregate cost to the County not to exceed $235,690.00.

Body
WHEREAS, U.S. President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., Missouri Governor Mike Parson, and County Executive Frank White, Jr., have all declared, in one form or another, the ongoing Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic to be a public health emergency; and,
WHEREAS, the County, through its various efforts, plays a significant role in the public health of its citizens and employees; and,
WHEREAS, an appropriate response by the County to this emergency will require significant expenditures from the County CARES Act Fund, which consists of monies provided by the U.S. Treasury for this purpose; and,
WHEREAS, by Ordinance 5371, dated June 22, 2020, the Legislature authorized a contract in the amount of $500,000.00 with Harvesters- The Community Food Network of Kansas City, MO, to begin the process of ensuring that food insecurity is minimized in the wake of the full economic impact in connection with the fight against the ongoing Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS, by Ordinance 5420, dated October 5, 2020, the Legislature authorized contracts in the total amount of $170,000.00 with the Community Services League of Independence, MO, and One Good Meal of Lee's Summit, MO, to continue the process of ensuring that food insecurity is minimized; and,
