WHEREAS, since 1997 Cynthia Newsome served as one of the most trusted and recognizable voices in Kansas City journalism through her work at KSHB 41; and,
WHEREAS, her professionalism, compassion, and unwavering commitment to telling the stories of everyday people left a lasting mark not only on local television, but on the entire Kansas City community; and,
WHEREAS, throughout her award-winning career, Cynthia brought credibility and heart to every story she covered; and,
WHEREAS, whether reporting on moments of triumph, tragedy, or change, she approached journalism with integrity and humanity; and,
WHEREAS, viewers welcomed her into their homes because they knew she delivered the news with honesty, fairness, and genuine care for the people behind every headline; and,
WHEREAS, beyond the anchor desk, Cynthia Newsome represented the very best of public service journalism; and,
WHEREAS, she co-founded Awesome Ambitions, a Kansas City-based nonprofit organization that offers mentorship, resources, and seminars for Black and brown girls in grades 8 through 12; and,
WHEREAS, her mentorship and leadership within the newsroom helped shape countless media professionals who admired both her talent and her character; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to her professional accomplishments, Cynthia was a devoted wife to Ed Newsome, a caring family member to her stepchildren, and an unwavering friend whose life was marked by faith, compassion, and service; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Jackson County Legislature honors the legacy of Cynthia Newsome that will endure through the countless lives she touched, the stories she told, and the standard of excellence she set for journalism in Kansas City, her voice helped define an era of local news, and her cont...
